Heroes are real. They are the people we look up to. In this workshop students will choose a personal hero/heroine to celebrate. This hero/heroine may be a cultural icon or a family member. Writers will create their personal narratives focusing on the importance of their hero/heroine in their lives and explore what villains may exist in relation. We will make sure to highlight students’ home language(s) and cultural storytelling styles. Your stories can be amplified with illustration and photography.

This workshop empowers and motivates bicultural and bilingual students as they discover the confidence to share their unique voice with the world. This summer, workshop students will read autobiographies from the various cultures represented in the class and use those diverse writing styles to create narrative masterpieces. By the end of the class, student memoirists will express pride in their exceptional story and gain respect for the cultures of their classmates.
